Professional Experience Leading Lawyers in Pakistan; Senior Advocate at the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He has served as the minister of law, justice, interior and education in the federal government between 1988 and 1993. Elected to the senate of Pakistan in 1994
Description Author of “The Indus Saga and the Making of Pakistan”, Aitzaz Ahsan is a active member of Pakistan Peoples Party. Aitzaz Ahsan comes from a background steeped in politics, being the third generation from his family to serve as an elected member of a legislative assembly. After his early education at Aitchison College and the Government College in Lahore, he studied law at Cambridge and was called to the bar at Grays’ Inn in 1967. Upon his return from Cambridge, Aitzaz Ahsan appeared for and stood first in Pakistan's prestigious Central Superior Services (CSS) examination. Objecting to the rule of General Ayub Khan, however, he refused to join government service during a time of military rule.   PPP might have had a landslide victory if they right and outright supported Aitezaz's cause
If PPP had a stance like Shairf's on judges with Aitezaz contesting. PPP would have got 2/3 majority with a snap of a finger. And i could see that he could have been the thawing force between Musharaf and Chaudary Ifthikar. But Sharifundin Pirzada and Malik Mohd Qayyum advised Musharaf wrong because Aitezaz said in an interview that the decision on Musharaf's validaty would have favoured him 30 % i.e he must have been given some more time to rule. All is too late now, its down to drain for him from now on.

  Leader in prinicple
Aitzaz Ahsan has proved himself to be a man of principles from the begining. But the people pf Pakistan have come to know of his real strengths only after the Judical crisis probably because Aitezaz is not hugry for limelight. He has always worked ehind the curtains in PPP and was never acknowledged by the masses to be a man of such high a stature until now. He has got the will power ad the backing of all the major key players minus Musharraf and co. off course to streamline the affairs of the country as a consensus candidate. had he participated in the elections i would have voted for Aitezaz for the top notch of the country.

  Zardardi and his dirty plans
Nawaz shareef nominated AItazz's name because he know that he is good man but greedy for money and power zardari turned it down. I doubt maybe soon zardari will strengthn musharaf and chance of getting rid of musharaf will be lost because of world known greed of zardari

  Different Political View
He indeed is a man of principles, and that he has shown, after he supported the CJP, and above all when he decide to boycott these sham polls.

  Independent Judiciary
His stand against Musharraf and his movement towards the restoration of the pre-Nov 3rd judiciary is worthy of praise, however, his support for the PPP is beyond my comprehension.

  A Man Of Courage
His never-ending struggle and dare-devil attitude deserves a huge applause. He has been the frontrunner alongwith Chaudary Ifthikar in the fight for the freedom of independent judiciary. As he points out in his recent article in The Khaleej Times, Chaudary Ifthikar and the other deposed judges were deemed as loyalists of the military regime because they agreed to take oath at the time when prominent judges refused to take oath on an 'unconstitutional' Constitution. Like Obama, he wanted 'change', he vowed to purify the courts which used to tilt towards powerful personalitites and government while making judgments previously. He was harrased by Musharaf and other generals and was told to resign but he refused to bow down to people who are now more unpopular than Al Qaeda, as Aitzaz Ahsan points out. He was oust by Musharaf but came back hard with the help of Aitzaz Ahsan by winning his case. He re-wrote history by taking tough stance against government malpractices. 'Lal Masjid' Massacare, Nawaz Sharif's case , the missing people's case and the privatisation of Pakistan Steel was halted by him because it was being sold for peanuts. Musharaf knew that this 'Napolean' with the help of loyalists like Aitzaz and Munir can iniate a 'French Revloution' to overthrow his Raj. So, he kicked them out of the courts and house arrested them. But, what Musharaf does not know is that by putting 'courage' behind bars, he is not suppressing it, he is adding more fuel to it. Salute to you Mr. Ahsan, we need 'gladiators' like you who refuse to bow down their heads infront of the 'mother of all evils' and the 'king of corruption' !

  why a wrong choice??
Mr. invincible please share it with us, what did aitaizaz did in the past?? I support him not because he went to the jail. I support him because he has the courage to take an initiative, he was the master mind behind the movement for justice. He actually mobilized the people of Pakistan I am sure if he would have been given an oppurtunity he will definitely be better than anyother leader we have had in the past. I also support him because he is amongst those smart people who know who to achieve success, no matter how tough and demanding the competition is and then again he is ready for the next one.

  Wrong choice
Wake up people, he's not the one for our country, Go and read what he has done in the past. Going to jail doesn't make one a hero, otherwise all the thieves and dacoits would be in our parliament!!
